01
The challenge
Two audiences with opposite intents landing on the same page.
02
Our approach
Split the top-level navigation by intent — sell an item, buy an item — and wrote content for each.
03
The outcome
A single site serving two distinct search intents cleanly.
Design decisions
Three choices that made the difference.
Two intents, split at the navigation
Selling an item and buying an item are opposite journeys. The top-level navigation forks immediately, so neither audience wades through content written for the other.
Valuation process documented
How items are assessed, what identification is required and how payout works — published openly, which removes the anxiety that keeps first-time sellers from walking in.
Inventory framed as browsable retail
The buy side is presented like a shop, not a liquidation list, which lifts both time on page and in-store visits.
What the site was built to be found for
Ottawa pawn shop searches from both sides of the counter — 'sell gold', 'pawn my watch', 'buy used tools' — plus item-specific long-tail queries.
Where we would take it next
Item-category pages for the highest-volume goods, each targeting its own sell-side search.
What we built
- —Intent-split navigation and content tracks
- —Valuation and identification process pages
- —Browsable inventory presentation
- —Local SEO with storefront details
Responsive build
The same site, engineered for the phone in your customer's hand.
Tap-to-call in the header, a quote action always in reach, and images sized for mobile data. The mobile view is not a shrunken desktop — it is the primary design.
